The Wega Concept is one of the models produced by the Astoria CMA group, where Wega part of is. This espresso machine is quite revolutionary of it’s day. This espresso machine was introduced around 2012/2013 and it was one of the first multi boiler espresso machines. Nowadays that is more common but a decade ago this was quite uncommon.
This espresso machine has one big steam and water boiler and each individual brewing group would have it’s own small boiler, this results in a better temperature stability. The boilers can be found from a 2 group all the way up to a 4 group espresso machine, which means that a 4 group has in total 5 individual boilers.
The type of brewing group used on the Wega Concept is also a bit different then most brewing groups on Wega espresso machines. First off all the portafilter size is a lot smaller, it is the group head with a 52mm diameter. But to give the brewing group more temperature stability it is also fitted with a small heating element which is controlled with a temperature probe.
The portafilter and filterbasket used on the Wega concept have a outer diameter of 65mm instead of the more common 70mm. In this case the standard 58mm tamper won’t fit.
Besides the multi boiler system is the Concept model also fitted with a water cooled pump motor and can it be fitted with a, optional, autosteamer. This autosteamer will automatically froth up your milk by measuring the temperature of the milk.
