The Rancilio Epoca is one of the most iconic espresso machines ever made by the Rancilio Group. This espresso coffee machine comes in a variety of versions and groups.
Models of the Rancilio Epoca
The Rancilio Epoca was sold in two versions, a model E and a model ST. Between these models are a lot of similarities, but also a lot of differences. The Rancilio Epoca is available in a single brewing group version and a 2 group version. Which makes it ideal for a office or a small bar
Rancilio Epoca E
This version of the Epoca is the Electronic version, which means that this model is fitted with a dosing device. You can select on the push button which type of coffee you want and it will stop automatically when the pre-set amount of water has flown true the brewing group. This is done with the help of a flowmeter, this is installed in the hydraulic system of the coffee machine.
Rancilio Epoca S
The S version of the Epoca is the simpler version of the Epoca. This espresso machine does only have a start stop button. So you do need to start and stop the brewing process manually. Otherwise it will keep running constantly.

Brewing group
The brewing group used on the Rancilio Epoca is a standard model which you find on most regular Rancilio espresso machines. The brewing group is a solenoid operated group head. The portafilter gasket has a outer diameter of 74mm and a inner diameter of 57,5mm, with a thickness of 8,5mm. The shower screen is held in place with a small screw. At the back of the brewing group you have the 3 way solenoid valve, with the plastic outlet.
Epoca Body panels
One of the most common parts which break down on the Rancilio espresso machines, you won’t expect it, are the body panels. The panels which got damaged most often where the front panels. This individual panel used to be replicable as a single component. But nowadays you can only buy the body panels as a whole set, solely in the colour grey.
Water tank
A water tank on a commercial espresso machine, you don’t see this quite often. But there is a version of the Rancilio Epoca which has a water tank. This water tank is installed on the back of the espresso machine. The funny thing is that this water tank is identical to the ones used on the domestic Rancilio Silvia espresso machines.
