The flowmeter comes in various sizes and models, all with the same goal, measure the water flow of the water coming out of the brewing group. The flowmeter works in combination with the volumetric touchpanel and the dosing device. When you push a button on the touchpanel the flowmeter will register how much water will flow true it, and once the required volume is reached it will stop automatically.
Note: not all espresso machines have a flowmeter, if your espresso machine does not have volumetric dosing, you won’t have a flowmeter.
Most espresso machine brands use the flowmeters made by the Italian company Gicar, but brands such as the Cimbali Group and Carimali do also use flowmeters from the Swiss company Digmesa.
Most are made up out of 3 components. The body, the impeller and the cover. The body has in most cases a in and outlet which is ¼”BSP-G. With Digmesa there can be 2 inlets. In the body is also a nozzle, these nozzles are normally between 1,0 and 1,2mm in diameter.
