Faema Urania 2 group espresso machine

Rare Faema Urania 2 group lever espresso machine with a full restoration.

This Faema Urania is one of the more rare models. This version has a complete acrylic back plate, instead of a glass or metal back plate. And it is has also got the tall zodiac style groups, the low ones are more commonly used on Faema Urania espresso machines.
But the restoration on a more rare machine is the same as with a more common machine. The process also started with inventarising the machine, after this the tear down of the machine started.
The frame of the machine got sandblasted to remove the greace, grime and rust. After the blasting it was ready to receive a dual coat of powdercoating. 
The panels and casted parts which where chrome plated, where send out for chrome plating. This process can take quite some time, seen there are quite some steps to a new chrome plated parts: de-chrome plated, grinding, polishing, nickle plating and finally chrome plating. The aluminium and brass parts where grind and polished into a mirror finish.

The part what makes this machine special is the acrylic back plate. on most Faema Urania machines they are made from chrome plated brass or a regular glass plate. note: the panel does have some small cracks but the structure is good.

This Faema Urania 2 group has a Faema zodiac type of brewing group, these are earlier then the zodiac groups. The bottom section of the brewing group is casted brass with chrome plating and the top section where the lever assembly is located is made from casted aluminium. This casting is taller then a normal zodiac group.

On the brewing group the following parts have been replaced:

• piston seals;
• main springs;
• rubber bumpers, back and fron;
• bearings.

Next to the esthetics on the machine, there has also been taking care of the internals. The boiler has been descaled and cleaned, the same for the tubes and internal valves. These internal valves have been cleaned and rebuild. The boiler is fitted with new gaskets, new heating element and a new safety valve.

All the electrical components on the inside have been replaced with new components:

• HT wiring;
• heating element;
• pressure switch;

Next to all these things the machine will be supplied with a reproduction single and a double portafilter, and their matching baskets.
For the water supply there will be a stainless steel hose and for draining the machine there will be a reinforced plastic hose.
