There are 3 products.Every bar uses a type of knock box or drawer to get rid of coffee residue. This is done by hitting with your portafilter against a round bar. The round bar is made from a tube of steel or a wooden round bar which has been covered with a rubber like material. This material is sturdy enough to resists the hitting of the portafilter against it, but soft enough that it doesn’t damage your portafilter. But the downside of this that hitting the portafilter thousands of times against this rubber it will eventually wear out, seen it is a consumable items. Luckily these replacements knock bars can be found in various sizes and shaped for a variety of brands. Below you can check which model you might need for your knock box.
As mentioned above the knock bar in your knockbox is a consumable so it will wear out over time. How fast does depend on how much coffee you make, which brand and if you have a commercial grade knock box or one solely for domestic use. The ones for commercial use, when used the same amount of time, will last a lot longer then the domestic ones.
For the commercial espresso machines you have 2 brands, which are both Italian manufactures of knock boxes. Those are the brands Priolinox and Ronda.
The knock bar used on the knock boxes of Priolinox is a standard round bar with a outer diameter of 39mm and a length of 320mm. The original one is made from a steel tube lined with a rubber like material. The after market model has the same dimensions but is a wooden round bar with a rubber like lining around it.
The knock bars used on the Ronda knock boxes are slightly different. This model of knock bar is round but has at the ends small tabs where it is installed into the box itself. The knock bar itself has a diameter of 30mm and a overall length of 342mm.
The knock boxes made for domestic use normally also function the same as the ones for commercial purposes but aren’t as ridged as the commercial ones. Brands who make these domestic knock boxes are Motta, Joe Frex concept art, Barista pro and Cafelat.
