Coffee and espresso machine portafilter spout
Coffee spouts can be found in a variety of versions and styles. But it all starts with the following questions.
- What is the thread used?
- what type of spout do I need?
- What type of model do I want?
Seen there is a wide selection of spouts available, but it also depends on what type of portafilter you have.
- the most standard type of screw thread is the female 3/8” BSP-G. But there are also models available which have a metric thread, which is M16. These 2 types of threads are not interchangeable. You mainly find the M16 threads with portafilters made for Cimbali espresso machines.
- You can make a selection of 1 coffee, 2 coffee or even 3 coffee. The models of the 3 spouts are not that common.
- What model depends of what you prefer, you have completely closed spouts, partially open, closed with removable cover and completely open. The advantage of the completely open ones and the ones with the removable cover is that they are easier to clean.
A tip how to clean your portafilter and portafilter spout. Fill a bucket with warm water and some puly caff. Place the portafilter and spout in the water. Let it soak over night. Then you can rinse it off with water. Note: do not submerge the handle with it.
