Gaskets are probably one of the most important items used on a espresso machine. A gasket makes sure that your boiler, steam tube or heating element doesn’t leak. There is a wide selection of gasket materials and shapes used on espresso machines. This does also varies also per espresso machine brand.
The most common gasket types are:
O-ring.
This is a round gasket which is used on applications such as sealing off solenoid valves, brewing groups, inlet valves. There are various materials used such as NBR, EPDM, FKM(Viton) and silicone.
Copper gaskets.
Copper gaskets can be found in various sizes and shapes. The 2 most common ones are the flat copper gaskets and the copper compression gaskets.
Flat gaskets
In essence they are all flat gaskets. But they can be made from various materials such as PTFE and Fibre gaskets. These fibre gaskets can be made by brands such as Klinger(Klingersil) and Victor Reinz.
