What Is a Piezo Igniter?
A piezo igniter uses the piezoelectric effect: a spring-loaded hammer strikes a ceramic crystal (often lead zirconate titanate), creating a high-voltage pulse that jumps across an electrode gap and lights the gas. Because the crystal itself generates electricity, no batteries or wiring are required.
Key Features and Benefits
-
Instant Ignition
Sparks up burners in milliseconds, reducing gas buildup and “whoosh” hazards. -
Self-Powered Reliability
Over one million actuations per unit; unaffected by power outages. -
Low Maintenance
Simple construction means fewer failure points—no wiring to corrode, no batteries to replace. -
Universal Compatibility
Fits ranges, fryers, griddles, pizza ovens, rotisseries, and more across leading brands.
Types of Piezo Igniters
-
Push-Button Modules
Ideal for griddles, fryers, and cooktops—one-handed operation right at the cooking surface. -
Knob-Integrated Ignition
Built directly into control knobs on ovens and ranges for a seamless look. -
Extended Shaft Lighters
Hand-held wand igniters for deep-recessed burners in pizza ovens and salamanders.
Applications in HoReCa
-
Ranges & Cooktops (Giorik, Electrolux, Zanussi)
-
Fryers & Griddles (Ambach, Whirlpool, Berto’s)
-
Pizza Ovens & Salamanders (Emmepi, Fagor)
-
Rotisseries & Charbroilers (Gico, Eberhardt)
Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Keep Electrodes Clean: Regularly wipe grease and carbon deposits to maintain spark strength.
-
Adjust Spark Gap: Aim for a 2–3 mm gap; too wide and the spark won’t jump reliably.
-
Inspect the Hammer & Spring: Ensure smooth movement and proper spring tension.
-
Replace at End-of-Life: When spark output diminishes, swap the crystal module to restore performance.
