What parts are typically replaced on a solenoid valve?
Depending on the valve design and the fault symptoms, the most commonly replaced components include:
-
Coils (ignition/actuation coils)
The coil generates the magnetic force that moves the internal plunger. A weak or failed coil can cause slow actuation, buzzing, overheating, or a valve that won’t open/close correctly. -
Plungers and armature assemblies
The plunger is the moving core inside the valve. Wear, sticking (from scale or debris), or damaged spring components can lead to inconsistent operation, poor flow, or a valve that remains open/closed. -
Gaskets, seals and O-rings
Sealing parts prevent leaks and keep pressure stable. Over time, heat, chemicals and mechanical stress can harden seals, cause deformation, or lead to seepage around the body or internal seat. -
Valve bodies and internal body components
If the body is damaged, corroded, or the internal seat is worn, replacing the valve body (or body parts) can be the most reliable repair—especially in high-temperature or high-cycle environments.
Why using the correct component matters
Solenoid valves are highly spec-dependent: voltage, coil type, temperature limits, media compatibility, pressure range and connection style all matter. Using the correct Lucifer, Parker or ODE component helps ensure:
-
reliable switching (open/close response)
-
leak-free sealing and stable pressure
-
longer valve lifespan and fewer repeat failures
-
safer operation in hot water, steam or electrically controlled systems
