Models

The earliest model of the Gaggia Classic is called, pretty obvious, the Gaggia Classic. The later series is called the Gaggia Classic Pro. There are a lot of similarities between these espresso machines. Both domestic models with a boiler fixed to the brewing group and having a water tank on the back of the coffee machine. the biggest difference between these 2 models is that the Pro version uses a commercial grade steam tube to froth milk and the regular one uses a pannarello steam wand.

Gaggia Classic

The Gaggia Classic might be one of the best sold domestic espresso machines, which does have some semi professional features. This espresso machine is fitted with a aluminium boiler, which is installed on top of the brewing group itself. Which has the benefit that the heat will be transferred fast from the boiler to the brewing group.

This espresso machine is fitted with a water tank on the back of the machine, from there the water is pumped with a Ulka vibration pump into the small boiler. This pump is also used to generate the brewing pressure.

Gaggia Classic Pro

The modern version of the Gaggia Classic, does resemble a lot of similar features of the Gaggia Classic. Such as the boiler and brewing group. But a thing you notice right away is the panel on the front, now they are individual switches instead of a push button panel. The other thing which is also different is the steam tube, but that has been discussed earlier. Besides that most of the machine is technically identical.

Gaggia Classic spare parts

At some point your Gaggia Classic will break down, even if you do proper maintenance to it. Well then you are with Brooks at the right address. We have a variety of spare parts for the Gaggia Classic and for the Classic pro espresso machines. This can be

Portafilter for Gaggia Classic

The portafilter on the Gaggia classic is not a pressurized model, which you can find on various other domestic espresso machines. But a proper semi professional portafilter. The disadvantage of the Gaggia classic portafilter is that this is not a standard size filterbasket, which makes them more expensive. There is btw also a Gaggia classic bottomless portafilter available.

Heating element and boiler Gaggia Classic

the boiler on the Gaggia Classic espresso machines, also other Gaggia models, is at the same moment also the heating element. This aluminium boiler has a integrated heating element, with the benefit that this element can use 110-120 and 220-240V. Instead of just one type of power. So you can use the Gaggia Boiler/heating element in every part of the world.

Descaling  or decalcifying a Gaggia Classic

The decalcifying process will remove limescale accumulation from your espresso machine, which can damage the internals and impede water flow. This procedure requires the use of a decalcifying solution. You can use the original Gaggia products, or you can use the Brooks Greenie descaler.

Pour half of a 250-milliliter bottle of descaler into your water tank and fill with water. Turn on your machine and use the steam wand to dispense two cups of water into a container while simultaneously pressing the espresso and steam buttons. Turn off the coffee maker and wait 20 minutes for the solution to take action.

After waiting, use the steam wand to dispense two cups of water again. Wait three minutes and then repeat the process. Repeat this until the water reservoir is entirely drained.

At last, you will need to run water through your machine. Dispense one full tank of water through the steam wand and another full tank through the portafilter. Repeat the process once more for a total of four tanks. Now you can start making a proper espresso again!
