The ODE company is located in the north of Italy, to be precise in Lombardy. ODE has been manufacturing since the 1960’s, but since 2021 it is part of the CEME group. This group has also brands such as CEME and Ulka.
On espresso machines there are only used 2 types of solenoid valves. That is the 2 and the 3 way valve, these can be Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed(NC). For instance the brewing group solenoid valve is a NO valve, once the coil has energized(brewing process starts). The water van only flow into one direction.
The ODE 2 way solenoid valve
The 2 way solenoid valves made by ODE are used in situations such as water inlet valves and steam/water valves. They only need to pass true water, that goes true a hole which is normally around 2,5-3mm in diameter. The ODE valve is held closed with a compression spring which keeps the gasket of the plunger against the orifice. Once the coil has been energized the valve is opened.
Of the ODE 2 way valve you have 2 connection types. One is a solenoid valve which is held in place with 4 small bolts. This valve is sealed of at the in and outlet with 2 small o rings. The other model is the female threaded version, this model has a 1/8” BSP-G or a ¼” BSP-G female thread.
The ODE 3 way solenoid
The 3 way solenoid valves made by ODE have solely one purpose and that is as a brewing group solenoid valve. It functions as following, when the brewing group is pressurized from the boiler the solenoid valve is in the NC position. When the solenoid valve coil is energized this valve opens and water runs out of the brewing group. When the coil is de-energized the valve closes and the exhaust water can run out of the outlet port.
The versions which are made by ODE can be found in 2 versions, with a flange or with a thread. The threaded versions can be found with espresso machine brands such as Bezzera, La Marzocco, Saeco, Gaggia, Astoria and Wega.
The flanged version of the 3 way valve made by ODE can be used on brewing groups such as with brands like Faema, Cimbali, Conti, BFC, Nuova Simonelli, Dalla Corte, La Spaziale and so on.
There are various exhaust versions on the ODE solenoid valves, there are 2 threaded versions. These are both a 1/8” BSP-G, one of them is straight and the other one is conical. The other version is suitable to attach a silicone hose.
If you are not entirely sure which ODE solenoid valve you need, don’t hesitate to contact us. It might be handy to provide the serial number on the coil. Makes searching for the correct valve a bit easier.
