The espresso machine level regulator is the basic electrical component for a modern espresso machine. A coffee machine level regulator never works on it’s own, but always in combination with a level probe. Most of these level regulators are made by 2 Italian companies. These are Gicar and Giemme.
How does a level regulator function? A level probe is located or in the top of the boiler(which is most common) or on the flange side(which can be found with for instance some Cimbali models). The level regulator opens the water inlet solenoid valve once it notices that the water doesn’t touches the level probe in the espresso machine boiler. Once it detects the water it will close the solenoid valve and stop the pump.
The water level in the boiler can be adjusted if you lower or raise the level probe inside the boiler. When you get lime scale build up in this level probe your water level regulator won’t work anymore.
