The steam valves on the Rancilio Classe 5 espresso machine can be found on the left and the right side of the coffee machine. This makes it handier when you are left or right handed. But which type of steam valve you have depends on which model you have, seen one is a additional option which can be purchased.
The steam valve which comes standard on the Classe 5 espresso machine is a valve which is a standard valve where you screw and unscrew the handle to open the valve. This type of valve is basically used on every espresso machine made. The advantage of this is that it is easier to work with for a barista. On top of this valve you can also find a small vacuum valve which is closed when the boiler is pressurized.
The steam pipe used on this valve is a swivel model, which means that it can be rotated 360 degree. The steam tube is made from stainless steel, which makes cleaning the steam tube easy to clean.
The C-lever model steam valve is the optional steam valve. This valve is different then the one described above. This valve is manually operated, when you move the valve handle upwards you can open, and fixate, the valve and maximum steam pressure comes out of the valve.
When you move the valve the other side, you basically open the valve slightly more when you move it upwards. With this you can control the pressure better, which makes milk frothing a lot easier.
The valve parts are in most cases not interchangeable between these 2 valve models.
The water outlet valve is used for hot water for “americano’s” or for getting water for tea. Technically this valve is identical to the regular steam valve used on the Classe 5. The only difference is that this valve comes with a water spout. Besides that they are the same.
