The brewing group on the La San Marco 100 espresso machines is a quite standard SM model of brewing group. This is a solenoid operated brewing group which can be found on most SM espresso machines.
Seen this is a common type of brewing group a lot of the parts are interchangeable with other models. The most common used item on this brewing group is the portafilter. This portafilter has 3 ears instead of the normal 2 ear versions other brands use, this portafilter is interchangeable between most SM espresso machines. But there are slight differences between the brewing groups.
The brewing group is supplied with warm water coming from the heat exchanger (HX). This warm water heats up the brewing group and returns. When the solenoid valve is open the water can flow true the group head, shower screen and force its way true the coffee.
To seal of the portafilter there is a flat gasket installed. This gasket has a outer diameter of 64mm and a inner diameter of 52,5mm. the thickness is 5,5mm, which is rather thin in comparison to the standard 8-9mm gaskets.
