The Rancilio Epoca was manufactured in two main versions: the Epoca E and the Epoca S. While these models share some similarities, there are key differences that set them apart.
The Epoca E is the electronic version of the machine, equipped with a dosing device. This model allows you to select different coffee types using the push buttons, and the machine automatically stops when the pre-set amount of water has passed through the brewing group. The dosing is managed by a flowmeter, which is integrated into the espresso machine's hydraulic system, ensuring precise volume control.
The Epoca S is the simpler version, offering only a manual start-stop function. Unlike the Epoca E, this version does not have volumetric dosing, meaning that you need to manually start and stop the brewing process. If left unattended, it will continue to brew until stopped.
The Rancilio Epoca shares many parts with other Rancilio espresso machines, but it also features several unique components. Below are some of the key areas where spare parts may be needed.
The brewing group on the Rancilio Epoca is a standard solenoid-operated group head, found in many other Rancilio machines. The portafilter gasket has an outer diameter of 74mm, an inner diameter of 57.5mm, and a thickness of 8.5mm. The shower screen is secured by a small screw, and at the back of the brewing group is a three-way solenoid valve with a plastic outlet.
One of the most commonly replaced components on the Rancilio Epoca are the body panels, particularly the front panels. Previously, these panels could be replaced individually. However, they are now sold only as a complete set and are available solely in grey.
Interestingly, there is a version of the Rancilio Epoca that comes with a water tank, which is unusual for a commercial espresso machine. This water tank is located at the back of the machine and is identical to the one used in the Rancilio Silvia domestic espresso machine.
