Well a distribution tool distributes the ground coffee in the filter basket on a even way. So that you have a fairly level tamping bed. The distribution tools can also be adjusted in height. When you set the tool too high it won’t contact the coffee at all, or just skim over it. If you make it too deep, it will plough the coffee just around or hit the bottom of the basket. A other important feature is that the chance of channelling/micro channelling is reduced.
